A message from the President, Jackie Glynn

Hello and welcome to the February Edition of the Ireland Chapter of PMI Newsletter.  We  are really packing in the value this month!

• Our Events Director, Katrina Collins, continues to offer a suite of webinars to delight and inform – including our first IWD celebration on March 8^th.
• See an update below from Helen Mahon, our Director in charge of the National Project Management Conference, outlining the event on March 11^th. Book your tickets here.

• Dermot Hore, our Director of Professional Development, brings you a chance to participate in our Mentoring Programme roll out
• And last but certainly not least, there is a message from our VP, Jackie Fagan bringing the “Megatrends” affecting our world today from the public to the personal. A great read to help you think of the bigger picture (read: EEF’s!) when planning your projects!

The Countdown to our National Project Management Conference 2021 has begun.  In the latter stages of planning last year, Covid-19 struck and quickly wiped out our in-person event.  Like so many of you, we had no idea how the crisis would unfold so we postponed the event until we eventually realised that it was a No-go! 

Our National Project Management Conference is so important.  It’s the flagship event of the Irish Chapter of PMI and a highlight in our calendar.  Let me explain why.

It’s a well-documented fact that the chief skill of a PM is Communication.  We also hold dear our central tenet of recording and applying Lessons Learned.  To bring the two together we need positive and plentiful human interaction!  The National Project Management Conference, the largest of its kind in Ireland, brings together our entire community to exchange ideas and advance the profession.  We have found a way to transfer this winning format to a virtual event.  So as past attendees of this annual event, we would encourage you to join us once more.

Following on from the success of the 2020 pilot, PMI Ireland Chapter are launching a Mentorship programme. PMI Ireland want to support and encourage its members to manage their own learning so that they can maximise their potential.

The main of the Mentorship programme is to contribute to individual growth of Chapter members, connect members to develop their project management skills and provide an opportunity to share experiences and expertise all while building your network.

Almost every great achiever in history has claimed that they had a great mentor at some point during their rise to excellence. Mentorship is a valuable tool for turning one’s vision into reality. Mentors will guide and advise their mentees, helping them gain a solid footing within the project management profession. Mentorship is a two-way process. It does take time and effort but when it works well both the mentor and the mentee benefit from the experience.

In terms of PDUs.  1 PDU per hour can be earned by the Mentor under the 'Give Back' category and by the Mentee under 'Informal Learning'. This is a real opportunity to engage on a one-to-one basis with other chapter members and both impart and gain knowledge in a very real way.
