Ireland Chapter Newsletter February | 2021 |
A message from the President, Jackie Glynn |
Hello and welcome to the February Edition of the Ireland Chapter of PMI Newsletter. We are really packing in the value this month!
|
||
|
||
But first as always, I like to kick off with free tools and up to the minute thought leadership that supports your development. So, I am excited to share the PMI Playbook for Project Management in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Projects. The use case for DS and AI is well made.
You may all have interacted with this technology as it emerged: from quick appraisal of a mortgage to image recognition for better security and automated customer service. DS and AI offer insight and solutions far beyond human capability and as such businesses have invested heavily in these arenas. However, studies show a disappointing shortfall the planned benefits of DS/AI led solution and the actual return. Often the return does not justify the investment – a sobering thought when we consider the hype of DS and AI.
The playbook, developed in collaboration between PMI and NASSCOM CoE, an eminent thought leader on DS/AI, seeks to address this gap and sets out the plays that business can implement to better manage DS and AI projects. This playbook is timely and useful, so I would urge you all to add it to your reading list. Let us know of any success you have had implementing same! |
The National Project Management Conference 2021: Powerful Perspectives |
Helen Mahon | National Conference Director
The Countdown to our National Project Management Conference 2021 has begun. In the latter stages of planning last year, Covid-19 struck and quickly wiped out our in-person event. Like so many of you, we had no idea how the crisis would unfold so we postponed the event until we eventually realised that it was a No-go! Our National Project Management Conference is so important. It’s the flagship event of the Irish Chapter of PMI and a highlight in our calendar. Let me explain why. |
|
It’s a well-documented fact that the chief skill of a PM is Communication. We also hold dear our central tenet of recording and applying Lessons Learned. To bring the two together we need positive and plentiful human interaction! The National Project Management Conference, the largest of its kind in Ireland, brings together our entire community to exchange ideas and advance the profession. We have found a way to transfer this winning format to a virtual event. So as past attendees of this annual event, we would encourage you to join us once more. |
We promise 8 incredible speakers, including 2 Keynotes split over morning and afternoon. This means that those who can only attend for half the day, won’t miss out!
You will leave each session, with a Key takeaway to unlock barriers to success in your careers or projects!
There are 8 PDU's on offer for the full day event!
Our platform enables simple networking through profile creation and virtual card swapping.
Delegates will also enjoy our Expo, entry to a competition and an event goodie bag! Early bird tickets are still available. For more info and to book your seat click here.

Message from our VP, Jackie Fagan
The role of the Ireland Chapter of PMI is to arm our members with the right insights, tools and techniques to improve their experience and the success or their projects and programmes. To this end I want to share a seminal piece of PMI Thought Leadership, published at the outset of 2021, around Megatrends. When planning projects, we don’t often consider the geo-political environment or mass movements sweeping the globe. However, these Megatrends will become the Enterprise Environmental factors facing your projects and programmes in the coming year/s. So why not get a head start?
The five Megattrends outlined and interlinked are:
- Climate Change
- Covid 19
- Civil, Civic, and Equality Movements
- Shifting Globalization Dynamics
- Mainstream Artificial Intelligence
You can delve deeper into these Megatrends here, and understand how they overlap and accelerate. You can also discover what they mean for your projects and programmes.
