Ireland Chapter Newsletter January | 2021 |
A message from the President, Jackie Glynn |
Welcome to our January Edition of the PMI Ireland Chapter Newsletter. The joy of a fresh new year has been somewhat dulled by bitter weather, extended lockdown, and the usual post-holiday blues of late January. So, in this edition let’s flip the script and offer some positive news, helpful highlights and potential new direction for when we do emerge post-Covid (when, not if!). |

How about we start with some freebies!? On the PMI Resource Hub you will currently find some incredible free courses, including Business Continuity and Foundations of Change Management. And for those with limited time, check out Snippets – a range of short burst learnings, tailored for you. There is also a brilliant tool for would be project contributors, to get them versed on the basics of project management, aptly named Kickoff. For those of you seeking certification in 2021 – here is reminder of the full suite of PMI Certifications. Click for details.

And lastly for those who have certification but would like to gain new hot skills – PMI will be launching micro-certification in April 2021, starting with an Agile Hybrid Project Pro Micro-Credential. This will suit traditional project managers who are beginning to venture into the Agile or Hybrid space. However, it will also help PMP® holders to align to the new PMP® standards. Hopefully this offers some food for thought. We are project managers after all, accustomed to planning before we can execute – so let the coming weeks be your planning phase for a fantastic, successful 2021! |
Click, dont commute: A guide to taking PMI Online proctored exams. |
Niamh Mongey | Director of Communications
In 2020 PMI introduced online proctored exams, to allow CAPM, PMP, PMP-PBA and PMP-ACB aspirants to gain certification in the post Covid world. And in the manner of Indiana Jones, sliding in at the last moment, I booked and took my PMP exam in late 2020, before the new PMP exam format kicked in.
Despite the last minute panic, my experience with Pearson Vue and Online Proctoring was great. However, there can be teething problems and as Online Proctored Exams remain the safe socially distant option, I have put together the following quick reference guide: |
Strict rules govern the equipment you use to take your exam:
|
|
The operating system must be Wndows 10 (excl S mode) or Windows 8.1 (except RT).
Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7 are strictly prohibited. |
|
CRITICAL STEP: To ensure your device and settings comply as above - take the system test here, before you book your exam.
You need a quiet, secure space to take your exam. I cleared every surface in the home office and locked myself in there. I reckon my partner would have left me at it, even if the house was burning down! Realistically you just need a clutter free desk - no paper, pens or calculator - and nothing else in arms reach. |

UPCOMING WEBINARS
The 2021 Series of Webinars and Events curated by the Ireland Chapter of PMI director of events Katrina Collins | LinkedIn is now available to view at https://pmi-ireland.org/calendar/list-of-events
In 2021, we will continue to deliver live webinars hosted by the chapter, with guest speakers from across the project management profession.
During late 2020, we experimented with virtual meeting style events to facilitate more interaction with our members as well as provide an opportunity to network. Due to the positive feedback received, we will continue to schedule these events throughout 2021.
Your feedback was very positive, particularly with regards to the options provided to earn PDUs which go towards the upkeep of your certification. Therefore, in addition to our chapter webinars, we have also added a curated schedule of projectmanagement.com webinars. For easy access, we are making the information & registration links for these events available through our Ireland Chapter of PMI webpage. As these webinars are available globally, we encourage you to register immediately, because spaces go quickly.
If you miss a webinar, or are looking for more opportunities to earn PDUs, projectmanagement.com provides members with access to the back catalogue on demand here.
Don’t forget that, as a member of the Ireland Chapter of PMI, you also enjoy access to the chapter archive. Bookmark the Ireland Chapter of PMI events page and check in regularly, as new events are added weekly.
