A message from the President, Jackie Glynn

Welcome to our November Edition of the PMI Ireland Chapter Newsletter. As always, I hope you and your families are well, as we exit Level 5 lockdown and ease into a, hopefully, relaxing holiday season.

Our AGM has been scheduled and will be held as a virtual event on Tuesday 15th December 2020. This year the voting will be done electronically and voting will be open for the period between December 4th to December 11th, 2020. Each member will have the right to vote and we ask that you exercise this right.

The first email will contain the link to the voting platform.
The second email will be a reminder for you to vote.

The new board will be announced at the AGM on Tuesday, December 15th.

In January our PMP Exam format will change and so I want to dedicate a little time today, not only for those planning to take the exam, but for the wider population as to how we might refresh our approach.

Immediately you can see that the format will undergo a sizable shift. The current exam format dates to 2015. Much has changed since then in terms of development approaches and so we see a shift in the format to cater for increased Agile and Hybrid models.
For those of you currently studying for the exam. Time is ticking but its still possible to gain certification this year! Top tips from those who have passed this format include: Simulators - PMI offer their own free simulator here. Study notes - try to use a variety as the exam questions range in difficulty level. Real life application. Memorising all knowledge areas, ITTO's, and formulas is not very realistic. Your successful application to take the exam, means that you have real world experience. Apply the theory to that: bring it to life in your mind. Understanding is better than cramming.
For those of you who gained accreditiation long ago, but want to stay relevant and benefit from any new approaches - here is your starter for ten: People: includes tasks such as Leading a Team, and Managing Conflict but notes the enhanced "enablers" (interpersonal skills) required to do so. Processes: This covers our familiar knowledge areas of Scope, Cost, Schedule etc - but updated to allow tailoring for adaptive approaches. Business Environment: This covers compliance, power and ownership in light of the new roles that have emerged within the profession.
A great way to map a learning plan for FY21 in terms of your continued professional development is to measure yourself against the new format, and focus on your gaps. Mentoring Programme Update

		As part of our ongoing support of your professional development, we launched our Mentoring Pilot Programme back in May 2020. During the past six months, our eight mentor/mentee pairs have worked towards their goals, exchanging expertise and experiences. We have concluded our pilot this month and we are currently focusing on gathering feedback from pilot participants for any future improvements.
We'd like to thank again to all our volunteers who have taken part in our pilot. We will be in touch in 2021 with details on future implementations of the mentoring programme.

On the 2nd December we present the updates to the PMP Exam for 2021, and on 4^th we host a virtual panel discussion, on "Projects in a Remote Environment". On the 11th December the "Thinkhackers" will present on using your EQ words! Considering that PM's spend 90% of their time communicating - you dont want to miss this!
