Ireland Chapter Newsletter May | 2020 |
A message from the President, Jackie Glynn |
Firstly, as always, let me start with you. I hope that you are all well and managing to adjust to this new way of living and working. It is important to ask for help and engage with what's available - both personally and professionally. On that note, I am very pleased to share the efforts of both PMI Global and your Ireland Chapter to better support you in the current climate. |
With quarantines still in effect around the world, the Project Management Institute (PMI) has made a wide range of project management training materials available online for free, to help at home workers bolster their skills and rethink work processes. These offerings are listed in a COVID 19 Resource Hub that will continue to be updated with additional services as needed. The results of our recent Ireland Member Survey indicated clearly (72% of respondents!) that the best way we can support is through Webinars and Virtual Training. So with the central resources freely available and our popular webinar series, we hope we are hitting the mark! We are also hearing, in the Webinar polling that Agile is forefront on many minds. On that score we have an upcoming DA Webinar, a free download of the Disciplined Agile Delivery Handbook and of course our Disciplined Agile™ course - at 15% off until 31 July!. |
PMI Ireland Chapter - Webinar Series |
Over the past three months, in response to the new normal that COVID-19 has sprung on all of us, the Ireland Chapter of PMI has kicked off a series of weekly live webinars for our members. |
So far our Director of Events, (Katrina Collins, pictured) has hosted seven engaging webinars, which have proved very popular. We have welcomed attendees from across Ireland and overseas, proving that the webinar format is reaching our geographically dispersed membership. A further seven webinars are lined up to bring us to the end of June 2020, when we will take a short break for the summer. |
So far, we have covered a wide variety of topics, responding to your educational needs and worked in a healthy mix of technical and softskill subject matter. Each webinar also provides an opportunity to earn a PDU towards your certification upkeep. Head on over to the Ireland Chapter of PMI website events page where you can register for any of the upcoming webinars. Alternatively, if you have missed any of the previous webinars, check out the archive page, where you have an opportunity to watch the recording and review the slides. |
Mentoring: Pilot Programme Launch Elif Karakulak | Director of Professional Development |
As part of our ongoing professional development initiative, we are delighted to announce the launch of our Mentoring Pilot Programme. Mentoring, whether formal or informal is particularly effective in the realm of Project Management where Lessons Learned are key. |
The intent of our programme is to support willing mentors and mentees by connecting them to develop their mutual skills. Success will be defined by the passion and committment of those involved. As such we were thrilled with the level of interest from our members. We have matched eight pairs who have already begun this journey. We want to thank all volunteers and participants for their enthusiasm. Throughout the rest of this year we will monitor their progress and at close improve the programme on the basis of our Pilot participants experience. Next year we look forward to the full rollout of this programme, when there will be ample opportunity for our members to get involved. |

WORTH A WATCH
Jackie Fagan | Vice President
In these changing times we are all adjusting to new ways of working. And while working from home is not new to Project Managers, video communications are now the norm for all, both in business and personal life. This technology, although wonderfully enabling, can present its own issues when it comes to effective communication. A personal "cringe" of mine is looking at myself on camera while trying to make "eye contact" with the audience! Irrespective of what platform you use (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, Skype, Webex) it seems that the challenges persist.
Esther Stanhope, Communications Expert and former BBC Producer shared a number of useful tips on Ireland AM, on how to make the most of your video calls. So I recommend you take a look! Click image below to view.
